Days Eight and Nine - Out of MonaVie

Yesterday I ran out of the juice. The bottle lasted just a little over a week, which makes sense since you are supposed to drink 2oz-4oz each day and there are just over 25oz in the bottle. I think I was expecting it to last longer. Today was the first day I was without it and felt a little drained despite having slept an hour more the night before than I have been the past week. I drank two cups of coffee later in the afternoon to pull through the day.

I missed the little energy kick I felt with my first serving in the morning. I missed the sweet tartness that started each day. I even missed the polite glug glug glug `of the filling of the shot glass.

I suppose I got used to the little routine, the small ritual of drinking a shot of juice that I knew did me good. I can see how it would be a little habit-forming, but not a bad habit to have.

Days Six and Seven - Kevin Smith

No noticable difference in my energy levels, but my sleep has been irregular due to things I'm working on, and too much Fallout 3.

Tonight I saw Kevin Smith at Roy Thompson Hall with my friend Mike. Great time. I've posted a clip of his last show in Toronto. Andre Arruda asks him a question near the beginning. Andre is a hilarious comic I know here in Toronto. Cool.

Day Four and Five - Funeral

Despite missing a post yesterday, I have kept up my daily two shots of MonaVie. I was at an International Opportunities Fair at the University of Toronto for my organization, Voluntraveler yesterday. If you want to read about it, I keep a blog here.

After the funeral a bunch of us went out to dinner at Affinity Restuarant, the only Asian vegetarian restuarant in Hamilton ON. The food was outstanding - I highly recommend this place if you are ever in the area. I'm not vegetarian, but loved the menu in every way except the abundance of mushrooms, which you can have excluded on request.

My overall energy levels have been pretty normal (slow to get going in the morning and lots of steam carrying me past midnight).

Day Three - Stress Headache

I'm feeling a little stressed. My girlfriend's grandmother died today after almost a week in a stroke-induced coma, my new organization, Voluntraveler has a website that needs to be launched for tomorrow, and we are doing our first public recruitment drive in 13 hours at the University of Toronto's Internaitonal Opportunities Fair. I'm looking forward to it. You can read all about it on the Voluntraveler Blog.

On the upside, I had a good lunch today with a Korean intern I work with. This time it was roti from Coconut Grove. I recommend the boneless chicken with a bit of hot sauce and a mango nectar to wash it down.

I still get a bit of a buzz from each shot of MonaVie, but I think it is yet too early to feel the increased overall energy. I kind of like knocking down a shot of concentrated fruit power juice though. I slam the glass down and roar like Wolverine from the X-Men (pictured above). I'm having fun with it.

Day Two - Craft Burger

I took a shot of MonaVie this morning as I rushed out the door. I felt the same bit of a kick you get from an energy drink again and skipped breakfast. By noon I was pretty hungry but not ready to eat just anything. I craved a burger.  A great burger. I went to Craft Burger, which for the uninitiated, makes one of the best hamburgers you'll ever put in your mouth. For those who know, I had the Craft Spicy.

Lunch was made even better by running into a comedian friend who I've rarely been able to sit down and chat with. Great food + great company = happy lunch for Jason.

By 3pm I was yamning a bit and felt a little low on blood sugar but passed on the usual coffee fix. Coffee was made by a co-worker, but I forgot to bring my mug to work, and didn't feel like scrounging for one.

I generally felt pretty good today.  Let's attribute it to a combination of productive work, a great lunch, a nice conversation, and perhaps MonaVie? It's only been 2 days and about 4 oz of the stuff. I'm not expecting miracles to shoot out of my butt.

Day One - First Impressions of MonaVie Juice

Opening the bottle, and taking a sniff I thought the juice had a strong smell. Nothing bad, just a stronger smell than your typical juice. It poured well into my little measured shot glass. The taste was familiar (I drink a lot of blueberry, pomegranate and acai juice blends) and had a consistency similar to tomato juice. I suppose that's from the fruit pulp. There is a kind of greenish oil left behind in the glass, which doesn't taste all that bad on its own. Yes I licked the inside of the glass. I wonder what fruit that is? I drank two ounces and I think I feel a little of the "pick-up" you get from an energy drink.
